Congratulations Lauren Hatcher & Corin Gibson – Mixed Doubles Champions 2014

Firstly the club would like to thank everyone for attending what turned out to be a fantastic tennis  event. We got off to a prompt start as there were no late sleep-ins this year and the round robin format meant that everyone got through at least 3 matches in the morning. Similar to the world cup format 2 qualified from each box and the quarter finals were played as the remainder tucked into a hearty ploughmans buffet. Once refueled, the semi-finals were played under the afternoon heat and provided the crowd with some entertaining tennis.

The final also lived up to it’s expectation with Kath Norton & Steve Cooke taking on Lauren Hatcher & Corin Gibson. An incredibly close first set resulting in a 1st set tie break win for Lauren & Corin. The second set was full of fighting spirit with Kath & Steve going toe to toe all the way through. At 5-4 Lauren & Corin took the opportunity to seal the Championship with a final 6-4 set win.
